Iron

Be The Good Iron

Be the good iron, my son;
it is a worthy metal for a man.
It is common enough to be found in every land
and easy to get hold of.

Gold and silver have their use,
but they are elites who
cause dishonesty and wars.
The value of iron lies in how it is molded,
and the work it is associated with.
It is not too much a loner to be combined
with other useful metals and
it is the metal that work hardens
between hammer and anvil.

Iron is not so rash as to
spend itself early in violent reactions,
yet not so aloof that it
loves its own life too much.

Iron knows its days are numbered,
even if they are long and time moves slowly;
in the proper time it gives itself over to rust
and returns to the same earth that gave it.
